BE PREPARED!

Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb Shelter in my Basement

"Civil defense cannot dispel the horrors of a nuclear war, but it could save millions of lives and prevent unnecessary suffering".

- Edward Teller (1908- )

Welcome! This website began a few weeks after I opened up the unusual door in my basement. What laid behind it was an underground, concrete-walled space, nondescript and dark. It didn't take long to determine what this space was; a decades-old bunker! I've always been morbidly obsessed with nuclear disaster and civil defense, so as barren, dusty, and dismal as it was, I felt like I had won the lottery. In fact, given that it was initially barely more than a glorified crawl space, I had the opportunity of a lifetime: setting up my own fallout shelter!

After some research and planning, I decided to start this website to document my progress as well as provide a place for resources, tools, and other information. Whether you’re a fellow atomic aficionado, or a nuclear newbie, I hope my site is informative, or at least entertaining! Check out my webjournal for progress updates, or head on over to Guides and Resources if you want help building your own shelter. Oh, and leave a note in my guestbook!
